Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, optional
- 2 slices sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 slices provolone cheese
- 1 slice mozzarella cheese
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Step 2 -Spread the butter evenly on 1 side of each of the sourdough slices.
Step 3 -Spread the mayonnaise evenly on the non-buttered sides of each of the sourdough slices.
Step 4 -Place 1 slice of the bread, buttered-side down, on the hot skillet.
Step 5 -Layer 1 slice of the cheddar cheese, 1 slice of the provolone cheese, the mozzarella cheese slice, the remaining cheddar cheese slice, and the remaining provolone slice, in that order, on top of the bread slice in the skillet.
Step 6 -Place the remaining bread slice, mayo-side down, on top of the cheese layers.
Step 7 -Cook until the bread is golden-brown and the cheese is starting to melt, about 4-5 minutes.
Step 8 -Carefully flip the sandwich and cook until the reverse side is golden-brown and the cheese is fully melted, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 9 -Transfer the sandwich to a plate and let it rest for 1 minute.
Step 10 -Slice the sandwich in half and serve.
