Calabash Shrimp captures the magic of its oceanic flavor with crispy, juicy shrimp flash-fried to perfection and with just the right amount of seasoning to make every single one of them irresistible. Better yet, Calabash Shrimp is ready in just 20 minutes with little fuss, making them a great weeknight meal whenever you want some exceptional seaside fare. This takes fried shrimp to a whole new place; no wonder this small North Carolina town is so famous for its food!
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- vegetable oil, as needed for frying
- 1 1/2 pounds medium to large shrimp, peeled and deveined
Directions
Step 1 -Whisk together the eggs and the evaporated milk in a shallow bowl.
Step 2 -In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, the garlic salt, the pepper, and the paprika.
Step 3 -In a Dutch oven, pour 2 inches of the vegetable oil.
Step 4 -Heat the vegetable oil to 350 degrees F.
Step 5 -In batches, dip the shrimp in the egg mixture and then in the flour mixture.
Step 6 -Fry the shrimp in batches in the hot oil until they are golden and cooked through at 145 degrees F, about 2 minutes.
Step 7 -Drain the shrimp on paper towels.
Step 8 -Serve hot.
