Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds bulk pork sausage
- 1 medium green pepper, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 (14.75-ounce) can cream-style corn
- 3 1/2 cups egg noodles, cooked
- 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 -In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the sausage, the green pepper, and the onion and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the sausage is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 4 -Drain and discard the excess grease and set the sausage mixture aside.
Step 5 -In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter.
Step 6 -Add the flour, the salt, and the white pepper to the melted butter and stir to combine.
Step 7 -Gradually add the milk to the flour mixture, while stirring constantly, and bring to a boil.
Step 8 -Cook the sauce mixture until thickened, about 2 minutes.
Step 9 -Add the corn to the sauce mixture and stir to combine.
Step 10 -Add the cooked noodles and the sauce mixture to the sausage mixture and stir to combine.
Step 11 -Add the cheese to the casserole mixture and fold to combine.
Step 12 -Evenly add the casserole mixture to the prepared baking dish.
Step 13 -In a microwave-safe dish with the microwave on high heat or in a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the remaining butter.
Step 14 -Transfer the microwave-safe dish or saucepan to a wire rack.
Step 15 -Add the breadcrumbs to the melted butter and stir to combine.
Step 16 -Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the casserole mixture.
Step 17 -Bake, uncovered, until heated through, about 30-40 minutes.
Step 18 -Serve.
