Tender egg noodles get combined with nourishing cabbage and a little butter, then it's all perfectly roasted to really lock in all the flavors. Simple, delicious, and hearty — check, check, check! Haluski is a simple yet elegant meal that you are sure to fall for. Welcome to the menu!
Ingredients
- 1 (16-ounce) package medium egg noodles
- 1 cup butter, divided
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 2 small heads cabbage, cut into 1-inch pieces
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
- parsley, to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
Step 2 -In a large pot of salted, boiling water, cook the egg noodles until they are tender but slightly firm, about 5 minutes. Drain them well and set them aside.
Step 3 -While the noodles are cooking, in a large skillet over medium-low heat, melt 1/2 cup of the butter.
Step 4 -Add the onions to the melted butter and cook, stirring frequently, until translucent, about 5-10 minutes.
Step 5 -Add the cabbage and the remaining butter to the onion mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until the cabbage is softened but not browned, about 5-8 minutes.
Step 6 -Season the cabbage mixture with the salt and the black pepper and stir to combine.
Step 7 -In a large roasting pan, add the cooked noodles and the cabbage mixture and gently stir to combine.
Step 8 -Taste the noodle mixture and season with the salt and the pepper, as needed.
Step 9 -Bake until the casserole is golden-brown on top, about 30-40 minutes.
Step 10 -Serve garnished with the parsley.
